5 APRIL
I played a small role in the performance Liberty Leading the People together with many other classmates at Mr. Tang Da Wu, my sculpture class teacher's, exhibition held at the Lasalle school. This performance was outside our academic timetable, we are not awarded marks for this, but we did it anyway. Personally, I did it for Mr. Tang, not for any merit or anything. I think he has been a wonderful teacher, one of the best I have had. I just wanna do something for him, and of course for art, for experience. Although we don't receive credits, marks, money, I think I have gained something, perhaps much more than what these things can offer. The interaction with the classmates, the satisfaction on Mr. Tang's face, it was great.
Surprisingly tonight I wasn't the silent, shy, 'no' girl. They needed people to say 'I am not an idiot' in Hainanese in front of the crowd and someone volunteered me because I have a loud voice, and I accepted the role. They needed more people to sing together the French song so that our voices wouldn't sound too weak, I sang along. I think sometimes I just need to toss my image and fears aside and play along with others, enjoy myself to the fullest and accept whatever is thrown in my face.
Dinner after the performance was lovely! We chatted, laughed, stirred shit, etc. I haven't such experience in such a long time. I have made so many friends today.
And yes, also from today's experience, I realised many people think that linguistics students can speak all languages. First, my friends expected that I could pronounce French words. Next, they expected that I can speak Hainanese. Alright people, I admit, I can speak all 6,000 languages in the world. The 2 psychology majors in this class are psychics too. LOL!
